Abstract
In the beginning of the 20th century the processing industry boomed. In consequence, people moved from the countryside to the city. Hence the following developments occurred:
- Growth of industrial enterprises in the inner part of the city since the beginning of industrialization.
- Change of the character of the industrial enterprises, which differ highly in terms of emissions.
- Rivalry between residential locations and industrial locations, which grew due to the expansion of the city.
Conceptual Objectives
- Using the different maps the pupils localize and interpret diverse industrial locations.
- The pupils understand the mixture of industries between 1902 and 1922.
- The pupils acknowledge the different timest he pictures have been made and discuss the changes.
- The pupils understand the increasing rivalry between residential and industrial locations.
- They learn about the importance of industries for the development of the city.
- Learn about the neccessity of industries and living next to them.
- Think about their own environment.
Methodological Objectives and Skills
- The pupils learn how to deal with historical maps.
- They knit the materials together and find solutions independently.
Suggestion of Activities
Are the pupils able to describe the changes of the city´s industrial and housing areas?
Are the pupils able to see the competition between growing industry and growing demand of housing areas?
Suggestion of Evaluation
The teacher notices if the pupils are able to think about their own environment.
